I'm not sure how BOINC clients work, but if the default setup is to run a fraction of WUs on each queue, it makes sense to just feed small jobs as they come in. However, if default behavior would run...

Thing about data like that is that it depends so much on job difficulty. I've run 14e/32 on GNFS-164 and GNFS-174, and the number of relations needed for the two jobs were quite different- like 25%...

Sean-
On the C191, looks like Q-range didn't get shrunk; 30-300M is likely to get you way way way oversieved from 16e. Consider taking the time to make a handful of filtering runs with varying...

nfs@home home page shows e_small and f_small.

So, we need to work out guidelines for the queues.

d vs e_small: If test-sieving indicates 15e could be even possibly faster, send it to e_small....

Well, I suppose if we were using the sievers for their usual ranges, the WU size and points would be rational again. Unless Greg asks for more data to tweak points or WU length, I'll leave that be....

I picked out a current SNFS job (from Chris2be8: https://mersenneforum.org/showpost.php?p=555787&postcount=2464) to test memory use. This job has lim's of 134M and 31LP, going to the "d" 14e queue...

Some memory-use data: I'm shocked that Lim choice matters more than which siever!

First test, GNFS-172 with 31LP.
Test conditions: Q=140M (bigger than lim's, to maximize memory requirement),...

Memory use rises with LIM, maybe not quite linearly but reasonably close (it might be e.g. 100-200MB overhead and linearly by LIM after that, for instance- I haven't modeled it, but that's my sense)...

I lack the coding skills to even consider contributing to making a BOINC wrapper for CADO-las. I'm not even sure I could manually call las from the command line successfully.

Cool to know...

If d continues to exist though less used, and we create an f_small, I don't see a reason for an e_small. e would cover, say, GNFS 170 to 185, a narrow-enough range that the queue should not back up...

Memory use is a massive issue here- CADO's 15 siever uses around 3GB per process, and 16 uses 10GB or more. One process can have many threads, but between the difficult challenge to compile for...

OK, I'll test a GNFS-185 (the largest job we're looking at for 15-small initially) with 15e and a couple lim combos to learn memory use; we can choose our maximum lim based on the data. Not sure...

Is this true even if the old d and e queues cease to exist?

That is, if the 15e-small replaces d and counts for d badges, they would still stop running it?

Doesn't matter to us queue-feeders...

Carlos-
As our resident BOINC-people expert, what should be the max memory use for the "d" subproject, and for "e"? I can work out maximum lim's on 15e for "d" from your suggestion.

Or, should...

Let's change the NFS@home sievers!

After nearly 10 years in service, the 14e queue has outlived its usefulness. Most of the workunits (not jobs) in 14e are for numbers that would be faster on 15e, but the 15e queue is lengthy and the...
