Higher end GPUs such as Nvidia Geforce 3080 Ti and AMD RX 6900 XT still sell around 50% higher than the MSP price.

Yes, we know. But even those were at some point at double or even triple the MSRP. |
I have a Zotac GTX 1070Ti Amp Extreme in its box on a shelf that I intend to part with, but I don't want to take a beating on the price, but may end up doing so regardless.
The changes in crypto mining may have a lot to do with the lower costs. The little guys are being pushed out and are unloading their hardware. |
Viliam FurÃk has a Radeon VII on sale for $750 USD including delivery woldwide.

I sold the 1070Ti I mentioned above in post #4 on eBay for $250 USD. There are others listed for somewhat less. The first question I received from the individual who bought it was to ask if I had used it for crypto mining. I was pleased to tell him I had not. The others I saw listed, well, I wouldn't touch them with "a-thirty-nine-and-a-half-foot-pole." I think that's how The Grinch put it.
