Extend rally?...
Just a little over twelve hours left to go huh? Giving it another shot, maybe with a little luck will make it through the night tonight.
Due to the problems that we had, what does everyone think of extending the rally by 24 hours or perhaps just 4 hours? I realize that extending it 4 hours would put it ending around 11 PM or midnight in most European countries, which is why I'm throwing out the idea of extending it by 24 hours. Please chime in if either of those would be a problem. If we extend it by 24 hours, it would end early to mid-afternoon on a holiday here in the U.S. and 7-8 PM in Europe so there should be minimal interference with people's work schedules.

If even one person has a major problem with this, we probably shouldn't do it. It wouldn't be right to penalize someone for leaving a rally at the time that they had expected it to be over.

Bruce, port 300 should be good tonight. With Lennart and me off of it, that subtracts off 85+ cores. Extending the rally would give you a chance to catch up in the stats after losing almost a day. I personally lost 9-10 hours myself and I'm sure there are several others who lost a lot of rally processing, which is why I'm suggesting the extension.

Karsten and Anon, if we extended it by 4 hours and ended it late on Sunday (i.e. ~11 PM GMT), of course the final stats could wait until Monday or Tuesday since they need to be compiled from at least 3 sources.

One question...Do we use the times on the results files to tell how we know when the final k/n pair is submitted? With 3 sources of results for the rally, I could help with that, regardless of what we decide on an extention.

Edit: Making this a temporary stickied thread that will be moved back to the May 23rd-25th rally thread in a couple of days.

Do you guys want to move to Ironbits's server port 5000? We can easily boost to 510k...I made my rally in there..lol

I'll let Anon and Karsten and others make the call on that. It seems a bit unorthodox since there may be searchers on it that weren't interested in participating in the rally.

But I can't argue too much. I did port 5000 for 8-9 hours while I slept after asking Ironbits to set up port 400. Of course than that gives you and I an advantage over others that weren't aware of port 5000, etc.

I don't suggest that anyone move over to port 5000 right now. The question will be weather people processing port 5000 during and subsequent to the outage should have those stats counted in the rally.

I'm essentially neutral on the issue...other input needed. Opinions welcome from all who are participating in the rally. We could even do a poll. lol

I'm fine with any extension or move. I've only got two cores to move! But for the sake of the heavy and very heavy hitters, I suggest we allow them to continue on their current port. If they're ok with a extension, great.
The primes have really been rolling in lately! Twelve new primes, with four confirmed since the beginning of the rally. (I got the first one.) If we decide to extend it, anybody who notified other forums of this rally should notify them it's extended so they don't drop out until it's over.

I moved my cores to port 400 and I'll stay there for more 48 hours or until I find a prime. I really need to find one in memory of someone close to me that passed away this night.

I'm game for a 24 hour extension. As for which server, how about this: primarily it will be on ports 300/400/6, but we'll still count port 5000 in the rally stats, so if you'd like to do that server, by all means do so, we need help on both sides.

Karsten, this means that the rally will be officially ending on 7 PM GMT, Monday May 26.

I am fine with an extension. This rally has been good to me. I didn't find any primes in the last rally.

Sorry But i cant stay more then the 48 HR.

I'm not worried about trying to increase my rally stats. :) Rather have just been trying to find a few primes is all, but haven't had much luck at it.

gd_barnes 2008-05-25 17:18

Consensus: We'll count port 5000 stats since the start of the rally...but I should mention this: port 5000 is testing much larger k/n pairs so testing time will be longer. I think Carlos and I were the only ones that switched off to it during the outage. But if anyone else did, if you can move back to port 6 or 400 or even port 300, that would be better and faster. Port 300 should be stable with Lennart and me off of it.

I said we'd stop the rally at the normal time even if one person was against an extension, which is exactly what we have. I just thought of an alternative: If we add 24 hours to a 48-hour rally, that's 50%. For Lennart, how about we manually adjust his stats up by 50% and continue the rally until Monday at 7 PM GMT?

Lennart, would that be acceptable to you?

Is there anyone else who could not continue another day?

Carlos, I'm sorry you lost someone close to you last night. Let's get you a good prime!

I have no problem with that. I have promised to do other work after the 48 hr here.

I belive i have done about 22 000 pair on AES server and 18 000 on my own. So 40 000 pair is a nice amount to stop at
