I forgot to mention this before, but in addition to representing North America, all of my sieve results during the rally should go down for team Raiders of the Lost Primes.

Oddball, just to verify: this range will only get partial credit, right? If I'm understanding the whole 24-hour grace period thing right, I can reserve a range up to 24 hours in advance of the official start time but I must correspondingly finish it as far in advance of the stop time in order to receive credit for the full 5 days.
That is correct. You reserved that range on April 13, 18:49 GMT and finished it on April 18, 23:26 GMT. Since you took a bit longer than 5 days to complete it, you'll only get credit for 15.4T during the rally. However, you'll get credit for the entire 16T range in the all-time stats rankings.
How much more time left in the rally?
The rally's over. You reserved your first range on April 13, 17:14 GMT, so you had to finish your ranges before April 18, 17:14 GMT to get full rally credit. The 3620T-3680T range was completed on April 18, 23:59 GMT, so you'll only get partial credit for it. However, 3000T-3120T and 5500T-5530T were done before April 18, 17:14 GMT, so you'll get full credit for both ranges.

To clarify, your total rally credit is 120+30+46.6 = 196.6T

The rally stats for everyone will be up in the next day or two.

Gribozavr, could you upload:

- A new k<100K, n=486300-490000 file with all known factors removed
- A new 100K<k<200K, n=480000-483000 file with all known factors removed
- A combined sieve file (k<10M, 480K-490K) with all known factors removed

We'll need them for the LLRnet and PRPnet servers, which will run out of k/n pairs in a couple of hours. Also, I'd like the combined sieve file to see whether sieving the entire 480K-490K file at once will extend the optimal sieve depth past 6002T.

I tried it on a CPU and couldn't get it to work either:
tpsieve version 0.3.4 (testing)
Compiled Sep 3 2009 with GCC 4.4.0
nstart=489990, nstep=30
Read 32086513 terms from NewPGen format input file `48.txt'
tpsieve initialized: 3 <= k <= 9999999, 480000 <= n < 489999
Sieve started: 6002000000000000 <= p < 6003000000000000
malloc: No such file or directory
The sieve runs fine if the n=485K-490K file is used. FYI, this was done using a Core 2 Duo at 3GHz with 3.25 GB of RAM using Windows XP. The sieve speed for the n=485K-490K file using one core is 29M p/sec.

I'll try the combined file on a Phenom II later today and see how it goes.

This one missed the rally cutoff by a long shot. :sick: I seriously overestimated the speed of this machine when picking out my original range, and since my only access to it is remote, it wasn't convenient to upload a portion of the range to get credit for the rally.

Gary, if you're reading this, now I see exactly what you mean about your first-generation AMD Phenoms being complete and utter stinkers at sieving! (And at LLRing, too... :squash:)

No, I used the 32 bit version earlier. When I tried the 64 bit version a few minutes ago, it worked. The sieve rate for the combined 480K-490K file is 100M p/sec, compared to 180M p/sec for the smaller 485K-490K file.

5390T = 5390 * 10^12

for the example range you gave, the first factor found was (see link above):

5390002989229981 | 5797113*2^487536+1

Range

Thanks
5390T = 5390 * 10^12

But in the sample why ^12? not 10 or20 :just a convention?

Regards
John

using multiples of 3 for the exponents reflects the way our number system is constructed: We talk about thousand, million, billion, trillion etc. so we use 10^3, 10^6, 10^9, 10^12 or their SI prefixes k(ilo), M(ega), G(iga), T(era) etc.
Apart from that, it is just a matter of what you're used to do. When I think about 10,000,000,000, I think "10G" instead of "10^10".

It looks like every range below the optimal sieve depth for n=480K-490K has been taken.

You can try sieving n=490K-495K. The software is here: http://sites.google.com/site/kenscode/prime-programs
but the n=490K-495K file isn't available. If gribozavr uploads it, you can try a range of 950T-960T. That will take you 2-3 days to complete.

You can also do some LLR tests. See this post for details:

gribozavr, could you upload a k<100K file for n=487K-489K that has all known factors removed?

The LLRnet server has dried out, and the PRPnet server will run out of k/n pairs in a few hours.

gribozavr 2011-06-04 15:27

I've downloaded everything.

gribozavr, could you upload n=484K-490K for k=100K-200K and n=490K-491K for k<100K? The PRPnet and LLRnet servers have both dried out.
