Then, on the other side, there are some, with no small factors, that fall a few digits all at once. I'm running a 168 digit right now that should be pretty deficient, but even across 40 threads, LA alone is taking a while.

It's been a long time since I ran factmsieve.py and much longer since I ran Windows. Can you try just the command for the Square Root phase in a terminal and get the factors?
