It just means that the top-5000 site hasn't tested it for primality yet. It's been verified now.

If the prime had previously been submitted, it wouldn't have gotten that far so yes, that also means it's a new one.

Darn, and when I saw that you had posted, I thought we had 8. lol

I should mention that after MUCH effort, we've finally closed the gap on RPS to < 300 primes behind for 1st place at the top-5000 site. We were close to getting to < 300 behind before the 4th drive started and then fell back to ~320 behind towards the end of the drive. We're making some serious progress now! :smile: This is a significant accomplishment because RPS has some huge and dedicated crunchers working on their project.

For 2009, the gap between the 2 projects will be a good standard for setting more goals for NPLB.

Edit: Even though the primes come more slowly at this higher n-range, they've helped us gain signficant score at top-5000. Although still in 9th place, we're past 1500 now. We should be able to move up 2 spots to 7th place on score (at ~2500) within the next 6 months or sooner. At that point, we'll only be behind the "big 6" so to speak...that is the "mega" projects that have a score of > 5000.

That was not an easy phrase to word clearly and I didn't do a very good job. Here is what I should have said:

"This was the last prime previously found by others in this range for this drive."

In other words, any future primes subsequent to that post will be NEW primes. There will be no more of this "confirmed" prime stuff. lol

To clarify it further: As indicated, my statement only applies to this drive. There will be some primes previously found by others for n>600K but they are extremely rare right now. The original Primesearch site only went up to n=600K so that is the highest that most people searched.

Like I said at CRUS after he found a prime almost immediately at n>119K for Sierpinski base 6 (after we had only 1 prime in an n=20K range prior to it), Ian is our golden boy! :smile: 5 primes already combined on 2 different drives for n>600K! Remarkable is all that I can say.

A couple of interesting side notes on this one:

1. This is the 8th prime for k=675 for n>260K. Benson found all 7 of the primes for n=260K-600K so this is the first new prime found by NPLB for this k. When I saw that I had found it, I thought it must be confirmed but Benson had stopped at n=600K where the Primesearch site ranges stopped at so NPLB gets this one! :smile:

2. This k is on a tear with 2 primes in an n=4K range, 3 primes in an n=25K range, and 4 primes in an n=74K range.

I am recommending that we delete all primes posts for n<540K. Can anyone think of why we should keep them? The info. is compiled in the 1st post of the applicable threads here as well as Karsten's drives pages and k=300-2000 page.

I think it's time to do a little clean up as well as reduce my posts count. lol There are some people who seem to think that I write so many posts only so that I can lead the total # of posts count. I couldn't care less and would like to dispell the notion. Deleting some posts here would be a way to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Hmm...yes, that probably would be a good idea. Another option would be to merge the posts into one so that we could still retain the info...but, yes, you're right, since it's all already recorded elsewhere, it shouldn't be a problem to delete them.

I'll give until 6 AM GMT Monday morning for anyone to voice any objection to me deleting primes posts in this thread for n<540K. I'll then start hacking. :smile:

I will keep most of the general ongoing commentary posts. Some of them contain interesting info. that will be nice to have for future reference like the most primes found in a day or the most different people to find primes in a day, primes that are closest together by n-value, etc.

When we pass somewhere in the neighborhood of n=640K-650K on our new drives, then I'll delete all the primes posts up to n=600K after letting everyone know first.

this will make it lots!! easier for someone to read all through this thread and read any helpful bits of information
would it be too much to ask for reservation posts in the drives' threads to be deleted to make it easier to read there as well
there is lots of useful information scattered throughout some of the longer threads on the NLPB and CRUS forums but they have so much junk in between that they are hard to find
i would almost consider trying to make an index of some of the most helpful conversations

After doing full searches on > 10 k's both for k<300 and k=300-400 combined for n=900K-1M over the last year as well as searching a good portion of the 4th drive for 14 k's for the same range, FINALLY, I have a prime for n>900K:

Needless to say, my largest ever and more than n=122K bigger than my previous largest.

All that I can say is: It's about time! :smile:

I believe this is PrimeSearch's 500th prime on top-5000! I'm still waiting for the site to reflect it in its totals by project/person. I'll follow up if it's not or if perhaps yours was the 500th prime.

We're currently down to 291 primes behind RPS, the closest we've been, I think. But just wait until that k=1005-2000 for n=350K-500K drive kicks off. We're gonna have some FUN! he-he-he he says with a devilish look as he smacks his lips and rubs hands together :devil:

Edit: Yes, my largest prime was PrimeSearch's 500th top-5000 prime! Weeeeee!!

Cleaning up this thread is like cleaning out one's basement, closet, attic, or garage. LOOOOOOONG and BOOOOOORING! BTW, I deleted my last post where I said I was commencing cleaning up and remarked how boring it was. No use to bore people with extra numerous posts by me; well, not any more than I usually do. :smile:

Once again I deleted about 100-200 of them today but this was an extra long session (2-3 hours) because I wanted specific records on the # of primes that NPLB has found in a 24-hour time-frame. So any time there was a clumping of primes, I put the times and # of primes in a spreadsheet. I have kept quite a few posts in which records were set and at the final post of those 24 hour time frames, I put an "admin edit" in bold that listed the record set.

I'll put a compilation of the records in the news thread.

Fortunately most of the records would have been set in the first few months of the project since the ranges were smaller so hopefully I'll be able to complete the cleanup in the next couple of days.

I could put up a php page that can pull primes for each specific user, which could show the username date/time stamp, k and n ...
Problem with this nplb database is a lot of folks are doing personal knpairs, so all that data is not getting into the database.
