And right as George is on vacation, until Tuesday.

Anyone know how to figure out which exponent it is?

Let the sleuthing work begin.
I'll be on vacation until August 26. I'll have only sporadic Internet access while I'm gone.

You have my permission to find a new prime while I'm gone. You do not have my permission to crash the servers.
See it only took him giving permission.

:badspelling:

brill news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully Scott has the serve set to e-mail/SMS George on his mobile.

That is 1900 UTC. Is this the first time the prime is mentioned?

Well, downloading the latest cleared.txt file and
comparing it to the stats listed might give a hint.
The cleared.txt I downloaded had 6933 entries in
it. The stats for the corresponding time indicated
812 factored composite, 1628 double checks and
4492 first-time tests. With the unverified prime
that gives 812+1628+4492+1 = 6933. So the
prime is (probably) listed in cleared.txt. But it's
not there with a residue of 0. So, if it's there, it's
there with a fake residue.
Since the first notice here came at 19:24 UT, it is
a reasonable assumption that the result was
submitted after 18:00. Sorting the first-time tests
by time produces these possibilities:

Of course, the above could be a load of codswollop,
as it makes certain assumptions about the timing
of the unverified prime posting.

WOW! The legendary 10M digit prime was probably finally found!

Isn't there an hourly archive of PrimeNet's files somewhere? Where is that?
WOW! The legendary 10M digit prime was probably finally found!
Is it really the stuff of legends?

And since 4/7 of the numbers given by Graff are less than 10M I would think it would be better to use the word "possibly" rather than "probably". A minor detail of course, but pedantry is one of my hobbies.

The archives are supposed to be at http://www.mersenneforum.org/primenet and http://tuatara.sdsu.edu/primenet, but they both seem to be down at the moment.
