This one hits close to home because my family often goes to Half Moon Bay.
Kyrie eleison! It reminds me of, many years ago now, when I heard about a high school kid who worked at a local ice cream shop being killed by a robber. I suddenly realized that, when I had stopped in the place a couple of weeks previously and gotten a malted milk, he had served me. A really nice kid. Governor Newsom was meeting victims of the January 21 Monterey Park mass shooting in a hospital when he was briefed about the January 23 Half Moon Bay mass shooting. On Monday, January 16, there was an even more horrific massacre in central California, in the unincorporated community of Goshen in Tulare County. Six members of a family were shot, including a 16-year-old mother and her 10-month-old baby. The victims were shot in the forehead. Coincidentally, the old expression "Land o' Goshen!" indicates mild surprise or dismay. The Half Moon Bay mass shooting seems to have been done by a "disgruntled employee" targeting former colleagues. As an indication of how bad this recent spate of massacres has been, one of my first thoughts upon hearing about the circumstances was, "Thank God, mass shootings are finally getting back to normal!" I was also reminded of an old Gahan Wilson cartoon (attached). |
I think that not enough thoughts and prayers have been forthcoming. The US quite clearly needs more to help reduce the likelihood of things like this happening again.
I think that not enough thoughts and prayers have been forthcoming. The US quite clearly needs more to help reduce the likelihood of things like this happening again.
I've had the thought that mass shooters have been killing the wrong people.
And I pray that in future they be granted divine guidance to target people whose demise might actually spur action to reduce the appalling carnage. |
... target people whose demise might actually spur action to reduce the appalling carnage.
Vague.
Those people being ...? |

Those people being ...?
This is exactly why I pray they be granted divine guidance. |

Brilliant! Those outside of a country's walls can only observe (usually). It takes those inside, and sovereign, to make change. Not always an easy ask. |

Local authorities said the suspect, a 43-year-old man, was found dead off the campus in East Lansing, Mich., from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. They said the man is not associated with the university and a motive has not been determined. Police also said they believe there is only one suspect.
|
