I did a P+1 test on a known factor that was found with P-1: [M]173683[/M] P+1 found a factor in stage #2, B1=200000, B2=200000000. M173683 has a factor: 973878325823253786426041 (P+1, B1=200000, B2=200000000) Again it is the P-1 factors that fits B1 and B2. P+1 = 2 x 3 x 3356964889 x 48351132547063 P-1 = 2^3 x 5 x 11 x 59 x 409 x 3989 x 173683 x 132390053 |

Yes, kind of. Remember that P+1 only find 50% of factors where factor+1 is B1/B2 smooth? That's because half the time it gets a hit if factor-1 is B1/B2 smooth. It does show that relatively deep P-1 should be run (because it is faster and gets log2(2*p) free bits of smoothness) before doing a P+1 run. |
