I have some of that paper with the Penrose tiling pattern, and would be interested if anyone knows if there is any truth to this story. Penrose has a wry sense of humor, and might have said something like this in jest, but I think that in reality he would have been honored. Now that we know that Penrose tiling predates Penrose by 500 years, a lawsuit probably wouldn't hold up in court anyway:
